AUB Textiles BA Hons X SPEZIAL
12 students have been tasked with designing and creating their own customised garments of SPEZIAL clothing
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL
We spent a fantastic morning at The Arts University in Bournemouth launching our latest collaboration and live brief with Level 4 students from AUB Textiles studying BA (Hons) Textiles.
During an intensive 6-week project, 12 students have been tasked with designing and creating their own customised garments of SPEZIAL clothing, taking inspiration from our latest EP "Manifest" and the ethos of the SPEZIAL collective. The students have been encouraged to be bold in their creations, and will be using a variety of textiles techniques and embellishments of their choosing, with the finished pieces forming a unique, couture collection.
As one of the UK's leading creative arts universities, it is a privilege and pleasure to work with such talented students and tutors, everyone at SPEZIAL HQ is really excited to see how this project develops.
A big thank you to Charlotte Hunt and the Textiles team for making this happen!
We'll share project updates and more news on the collection over the next 6 weeks
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL - Week 2
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL update:
Yesterday saw the SPEZIAL team revisit @inspiredaub for a design check-in with the @aubtextiles students after they were given their initial project brief last week to create a bespoke handmade design for a range of official SPZL hoodies and tees that will be launched as a collection later this year.
The students each presented their research and initial design ideas to Shahab and the rest of the group for feedback, discussing colour and stitching considerations, digital print styles and design placement.
It's fair to say that Shahab and the team were highly impressed by the creative ideas and enthusiasm all the students demonstrated both in their designs and through the sheer amount of research that was presented. With some of their designs incorporating neon stitching, embroidery, laser cutting, spray paint, crochet, digital photos and bead embellishment, it was truly inspiring to see the students embrace the brief and explore their ideas in such a range of experimental ways.
We're really excited to see how these designs will be brought to life and can't wait to see the next stage!
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL - Week 3
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL update:
We had the final review session with the @aubtextiles students earlier this week, with some serious progress on display from the students' initial ideas for their SPZL clothing creations. Shahab and the team were able to see some of the beautiful digital prints that recently came back from the print room, as well as some stitching samples and design pieces the students have been working on since the last check-in.
There was a lot of discussion about brand identity and the client brief, with some great feedback from the group to help the students finalise their designs before they start working on the actual garments, ready for next week's presentations.
We'll be sharing the finished creations and an insight into each designer next week after the project showcase, with more exciting news to follow on where you might be able to see (and buy!) these bespoke pieces....
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL - Week 4
Final Week Presentations
AUB Textiles X SPEZIAL update:
Last week saw the @aubtextiles students presenting their final pieces to Shahab and the SPEZIAL team for the end of their 5-week project designing and creating custom SPZL garments. Each student did a fantastic job of talking through their research, creative process and their final designs, with 12 completely different original pieces presented. The display of creative imagination, enthusiasm and technical skills has been really inspiring and it was great to see the pieces come to life from the initial designs. We will be revealing the finished garments in all their glory over the next few weeks once some final touches are made - but you can see a few sneaky shots here of what to expect!
More news to follow on where you can see and buy these later in the year - big thanks again to Textiles team members @charlottehuntdesign and @careyhasell for supporting this project and of course, the amazingly talented Textiles students from @inspiredaub
